Dressing Like My Friends For a Week (And Not Telling Them)

If y’all don’t know my friends by now, where have you been? I’ve featured my friends in my interviewing my friends post and my friends control my day post, and both of those posts were really fun to make, so I thought, why not give my friends another chance to control my blog content? This time, though, I’ll be doing it without their exact knowledge (sneaky sneaky). Don’t worry, this isn’t any creepy stuff; this week, I decided to copy their outfits. Welcome to me stealing my friends’ styles and dressing like them for a week.

I went on my friends’ Instagrams and looked for outfits that’d be cool to wear. I tried to find outfits that were kind of out of my comfort zone, but my closet isn’t that extensive, so a lot of the outfits I thought were really cool, I didn’t have the stuff for. Nonetheless, I picked out some pretty cute fits, and it was fun to experiment slightly with my style this week. Happy reading, and if I copied your outfit, I hope I did it justice. Is this considered free promo?

Sunday: Faith

To start off my week, I decided to dress like Faith. I swear, her whole closet is a dream. I love her style, and she manages to always look very put together. She wore a black crop top, jean shorts, and a navy and white letterman-style jacket which I thought was so cute and I need to know where it’s from. I wore this black crop top and a pair of jean shorts, both from Papaya, and a jacket that’s very similar in design to Faith’s from Under Armour. I’ve worn the shirt and shorts together multiple times, but I’ve never worn the outfit with this jacket. Honestly, I don’t wear this jacket all that often, and I should definitely wear it more. Overall, I really liked this outfit, especially the shirt and jacket together. It's a good start to the week that made me feel like the cool and collected girl in a movie who’s either really good at sports or dating the star quarterback.

Monday: Karin

Happy Monday! I saw this picture on Karin’s VSCO and thought it was perfect because I’ve worn this exact outfit multiple times in a different color. She has on a red and white striped top with buttons down the front, so I wore the yellow, blue, and white striped version of that. She also wore some classic denim shorts, and mine are from Papaya. This outfit isn’t out of my comfort zone at all, but it’s definitely cute and casual as well as one of my go-to outfits to throw on.

Tuesday: Julia

I would just like to say that I hate jeans. Jeans and I are not friendly, but I put on a pair of jeans today in order to dress like Julia. She has a gray tank top and black jeans on, and she’s also riding a skateboard in the picture but um, I’m not a skater, so skateboard not included. I put on this gray t-shirt from TJMaxx and these black jeans from Kohl’s. I don’t think I would’ve picked this outfit for myself (‘cause of the whole jeans thing), but I thought it was really classic and easy to put together. This will be the only time I wear jeans during quarantine, but they were surprisingly pretty comfortable.

Wednesday: Clary

I’ve already said that Clary’s style is heaven on earth, and I will say it again. I love love love her style. There were many good options to choose from, but I decided to copy this outfit of hers from last winter. She wore a blue and white striped crop top, a navy zip up hoodie, and these CUTE Playboy cargo-type pants. I tried to match the silhouette of this outfit as much as I could, though the colors are a bit different. I wore this white and rainbow-striped crop top from Forever 21, this purple zip-up hoodie from H&M to go with the purple stripes on the top, and these dark gray sweatpants from my sister’s closet to match the little shirt-big pant vibe of the outfit. She’s also wearing a neon orange scrunchie in this outfit, and coincidentally, I found a neon orange scrunchie in my room a couple months ago. Actually, this scrunchie might be hers. Is it? I don’t know. I’ve never worn an outfit like this before, and I thought it was really cute but also really comfortable. May be getting into the little shirt-big pant vibe more often.

Thursday: Sarah

Today, I decided to recreate one of Sarah’s outfits. She wore an oversized white t-shirt tucked into black denim shorts, so I paired an oversized t-shirt from a beach gift shop with a pair of black denim shorts from H&M. I’m not a huge fan of these shorts because the material is pretty thin, but they’re the only pair of black denim shorts I have, so they’ll have to do. If you know a good place to find black denim shorts, though, please help a girl out. This outfit isn’t terribly out of my comfort zone in terms of the pieces themselves, though it’s not typically something that I’d wear all together. I usually pair big t-shirts with athletic shorts (the VSCO girl look) and denim shorts with crop tops. However, I thought this pairing went well together, and maybe I’ll wear more variations of this outfit in the future.

Friday: Taylor

It’s finally Friday, and today I chose to dress like Taylor. Backstory of this outfit: on the second to last day of school last year, Julia, Taylor, and I decided to dress really cute and take pictures together in the courtyard. Taylor’s outfit for that day was a yellow off the shoulder top and a denim skirt; I have a similar blue top from Marshall’s, so I wore that with a denim skirt from Forever 21. I haven’t worn these two pieces together before (a common theme for this post), but I really liked the similarity of the blues in the top and skirt. If I ever find myself needing to wear a monochrome blue outfit, this will be my choice.

Saturday: Melissa

Last day! My final outfit inspo is from Melissa, and she wore a peach-colored tank top with some denim paper bag shorts. I wore a similar peach tank top from H&M and a pair of striped paper bag shorts from Marshall’s. I love the fit of this tank top, and I’ve been getting more into wearing these kinds of cropped tank tops in quarantine, but the color is way too similar to my natural skin tone. The next time I go shopping, I’ll probably look for a similar tank top in maybe a red or green. These shorts are really comfortable and I love the style, but they wrinkle really easily, which is kind of annoying. I’ve worn this outfit a few times before, though, and I love the contrast in silhouettes (pulling out that bestdressed ~juxtaposition~) between the shirt and shorts. It was a great (and comfy!) way to end the week.

Overall Thoughts

I really enjoyed dressing like my friends this week! They all have relatively similar styles to me, but I thought it was fun to try different pairings of clothing together. All of these outfits are mad cute, and I’ll definitely be incorporating them into my wardrobe more. I think my favorite one was Melissa's because it was so comfortable yet still very stylish. Big fan of that combo. Let me know who I should dress like next (TikTokers, YouTubers, celebrities, etc), and I hope y’all found this fun because I sure did!
