An (Updated) Desk Tour

You've seen my desk before. That corner in the basement with the brown desk and the drawers? Hate to break it to you, but that study area is no more. Since it's winter and the basement is hecking freezing, I decided to move upstairs and bask in the nice sunlight. I'm serious -- the window right next to me is the best part because in the basement there were no windows and time was a social construct. I love the sun. It feels so nice in the morning. I look so much better on video. Anyway, I'll be taking y'all through my new desk setup today, so enjoy!

Here's the entire setup. I have my desk in the corner -- it's a standard white desk, but it's shaped like a hexagon so it fits best in the corner. I closed the blinds so y'all don't see my neighbor's house, but you can see that there are two big windows to my left, which gives some really nice natural light during the day. I'll get into the close-ups of each part of the desk, and then I'll explain all of the stuff I have on and below it.

Here on the bottom left we have my stacks of books and notebooks. On the ground is my stack of textbooks for all of my classes, which I pull out whenever I need them. On the shelf are my three class notebooks (chem on the bottom, physics in the middle, math on the top), and next to them are some origami bookmarks that my brother got us for Christmas (thanks, Alex!).

On the bottom right shelf we have all of my class binders. The purple one is for chem and the blue one is for physics/math. The blue notebook on the right used to be the one I used for all of my SAT prep, but now it's for miscellaneous writing (if I need to do some extra math or something). I also keep a few spare sheets of paper in there, most of which are old, unused papers. The reason I have these in here is that my desk is white, and I don't want to get pencil marks on the desk, so whenever I have to do any writing, I put one of those spare pieces of paper under my notebook to protect the desk.

Here's the top of my desk: I'll go through the different parts of it, but I just wanted to note how I keep my keyboard and mouse in the sliding drawer on my desk. Whenever I need to use them, I'll pull out the drawer and just type normally. It saves space on top of the desk and makes it so I don't need to worry about moving my keyboard and mouse anywhere if I don't need to use them (before, if I needed to use the whole surface of my desk for writing, I would need to move my keyboard on top of my laptop, which was pretty inconvenient). These are the Apple magic mouse and keyboard, which I got recently and think are pretty useful. Kind of expensive, but I like them -- I prefer flat keyboard keys over taller ones.

On the left of my desk is all of my electronics. I have my laptop and my AirPods (with their very cute lavender case). I have a docking station-thing plugged into my laptop because the new Apple laptops only have lightning cable and headphone jacks, so I need some more space for an HDMI cable to use my monitor. I also usually keep my phone next to my AirPods, but my phone was obviously taking these pictures.

In the middle, I have a bunch of random stuff. The biggest thing is my monitor, which is your standard run-of-the-mill monitor (I'm not a tech person, so don't ask me which model this is). Right in front of my monitor, I have my blue light glasses, my trusty mechanical pencil, and an eraser, which I always reach for for school. On the right, I have my planner and on top of it, my lovely calculator. This whole section is just school essentials.

This final section on the right of my desk is more school essentials. The grey thing on the left is my lamp, which I turn on at night so I can see better. The lamp has some slots in it, so I keep some other commonly-used school items in them. On the left, I have a nail clipper (I don't really know why) and some lesser-used pens/highlighters: a black pen and yellow, green, and blue highlighters. In the little holes in the middle, I have my most used pens/highlighters: red and blue pens as well as pink and orange highlighters. I use these all the time in my planner, so it's easy to reach for them in this spot. Leaning against the lamp I have a small pencil case (it has Totoro on it), in which is all extra supplies: mechanical pencils, lead, and erasers, just in case I need them. Next to that pencil case are small note-taking items: the bottom one is a mini notepad and the top one is your standard Post-It notes. I use these for planning, lists, and bookmarks, so these are really useful to have. Finally, in the top right corner, I have my trusty water bottle. If you're reading this right now, hydrate!

That's everything on my desk! I hope you all enjoyed this, and have a good one!
