On the day this post goes up, it's the last day of my junior year (day in my life post for that coming on Monday) and I'm officially checking out of school for the summer. This year has by far been the most difficult and stressful year of high school so far, and I'm very relieved to finally get past it relatively unscathed. Today I'll be going through some of the highs and lows, the goods and bads, of junior year. Enjoy, and get ready for some really nice summer content :)
The Good
I had a lot more free time in general and saved a lot of time on commutes, so I had time to do other things! This gave me the chance to start my booktok, which has been the best thing to happen to me this year and has led to so many wonderful friends and opportunities
I also had a lot more time to read, which led to the discovery of a lot of great books that I definitely wish I read sooner
More free time = more time to contemplate myself :D (ok but in all seriousness, I feel like I grew so much as a person over the past year and a half and I'm so thankful for that)
I'm much more appreciative of the little things that I took for granted during normal years
I could spend a lot more time with my family
Our school was able to still have Homecoming (just pushed back to the spring), which was so fun and I'm so grateful to have the experience
A few little wins here and there in extracurriculars and stuff that made me really happy
I was able to take on a lot more out-of-school jobs and things like that, like volunteer work and an internship
The Bad
COVID, obviously. I'm super grateful that my family was able to stay safe during the worst of the pandemic and that we're vaccinated now, but COVID brought a lot of hardships during the school year. It not only restricted me to stay in the house pretty much 24/7, I was also unable to see my friends for over a year, which was pretty tough on my mental health. I miss my friends.
Classes have definitely gotten harder, which is expected because of my junior year courseload
Pretty terrible sleep schedule (I pulled many more late nights, especially during exam season, to try to get stuff done)
Stressed all the time due to workload, extracurriculars, internships, or just general life stuff
Since I was sitting in front of the computer all day, my life became pretty sedentary
My attention span has continued to leave the building
Sunshine? We don't know her
My screen time is....quite high lmao but I guess that's a given when you're doing online school and also spend your free time reading ebooks
This isn't really school-related but I haven't seen my siblings in over 1.5 years, and I really miss them (but now we're all vaccinated so they're coming home this summer, which is so exciting)
Overall Thoughts
There were a lot of good parts and definitely some bad parts during junior year, but I'm glad I went through it all. However, I'm so happy to be out of school for the summer, and I'm excited to see what's in store for the next few months. Next stop: vaxxed girl summer and after that, senior year.
