Living Like My Enneagram For A Day

I've lived like my zodiac sign for a day, and I let my MBTI type control my life for a day, but there's another personality test that I've yet to let control my day: the enneagram. So today, it seems like the perfect time to live like my enneagram type for a day!

A basic rundown of my enneagram type: I'm a 3w2. Type 3 is the Achiever, Type 2 is the Helper, and a 3 wing 2 is the Charmer. Enneagram 3's are described as "the success-oriented, pragmatic type: adaptable, excelling, driven, and image-conscious. Threes are self-assured, attractive, and charming. Ambitious, competent, and energetic, they can also be status-conscious and highly driven for advancement. They are diplomatic and poised, but can also be overly concerned with their image and what others think of them. They typically have problems with workaholism and competitiveness" (Source: The Enneagram Institute).

This is probably the best classification I could have been put into because I feel like it describes me extremely well. I'm very future-oriented and love getting things done, being productive, and achieving success. However, I'm also a huge workaholic and definitely care too much about what others think of me. In addition, the 2 wing means I give a lot to others, which definitely happens (sometimes to a fault because I stretch myself too thin trying to please others).

Breakfast

“A refreshing smoothie is the perfect breakfast choice for type threes because it will give them enough energy to power through the day. Just add frozen fruit, a banana, some yogurt, and maybe a little greens (because #health) to a blender and there ya go!”

I don’t remember the last time I had a smoothie bowl, so this was a welcome change. I made a simple banana and peanut butter smoothie bowl with a frozen banana, peanut butter, and milk with strawberries, blueberries, chia seeds, and granola on top. Delicious and not too heavy!

Morning Routine

“Giving yourself just one hour each morning that doesn’t involve your phone will allow you to be more in tune with yourself and your desires. It will remind you to be present with your day-to-day experience rather than just what you’re working toward and likely help you to not start your day feeling like you have to play catch up to the people you see online.”

I usually make it a point to not go on my phone or check social media until I eat breakfast, just so I don’t get stuck in bed for half an hour scrolling through Instagram. Today I waited until after my workout to check all of my socials and catch up on messages, which was nice because I always feel like I’m constantly checking social media and refreshing to see if there are any new notifications. It feels great to disconnect.

Workout

“[Type 3] works perfectly with the fast-paced environment of a Spin class. Plus, given that they’re somewhat image-conscious, going to a hip and happening spin studio will mean you can take awesome photos for your Insta-Story while you get your sweat on!”

I definitely don’t own a stationary bike, so I’m going to settle for the next best thing and use the treadmill. I jogged a mile and a half while watching Miraculous Ladybug, which I always watch when I work out.

Hair

“Even in a bun, they make sure their hair looks good”

I’m not going to complain about the messy bun. I love them. They’re so easy.

Makeup

“Makeup on fleek because you never know who you’re going to meet”

I don’t know who I’m going to meet if I’m still inside because of quarantine, but I did a smokey eye-inspired look anyway. Using my favorite Lamora Exposed Nudes eyeshadow palette, I put a mix of Mauve and Metal on my lid, Cameo concentrated on the outer half of my life, and Espresso in my outer corner to act like eyeliner. I also put a mix of Pearly and Champagne in my inner corner for some highlight. I finished off with some Maybelline Collosal Volume Express mascara and some lip balm. This look is pretty similar to the makeup I usually wear, but a bit more dark to go better with my outfit.

Outfit

“You know what you want in life and in your wardrobe. You often wear pieces that you know work for your body type. Why branch out when you've got a good system going? You are the queen of rocking basics and have your accessory collection organized to perfection.”

Good thing my closet consists of 90% basics. Today I wore a plain grey t-shirt from TJMaxx, this denim button-up from Kohl’s, and plain black leggings from Nordstrorm. It’s a pretty loose and comfortable outfit, so it’s one of my go-tos.

Music

Travie McCoy: Billionaire ft. Bruno Mars

“This song, an ode to becoming filthy rich, is very Three-ish. Type Threes want (and usually get) the external trappings of success more than the other types. Why? To fill up the gaping hole left by their failure to recognise their own inherent worth.”

I don’t think I’ve heard this song in over five years, so it was nice to get a little throwback. It’s a great song, and I always love a little Bruno Mars.

What to Do

“Being seen for success is important to this type. That is why the best hobbies are dancing, singing, modeling, and creating fun content to share on social media. Being influential somehow is important.”

Lucky for me, I create content every day for my TikTok. I won’t share the videos here, but I made and posted a couple for my account. All book-related, of course.

I also did some singing, so here are two covers I filmed: the first is "Mr. Loverman" by Ricky Montgomery, and the second is "Aracde" by Duncan Laurence. They're not the best things ever, but I love these two songs.

Snack

“Veggies and hummus are a great snack that keeps your brain power flowing and is perfect for a Type 3.”

We didn’t have any veggies and hummus at home, so I did the next best thing and snacked on some fruit (specifically, strawberries). Delicious, as always.

What to Watch

Schitt’s Creek

I have a couple friends who watch Schitt’s Creek, but I’ve never watched the show myself. I watched the first episode, and I thought it was pretty good, but I don’t think I’ll be continuing the show (at least not for now -- I have Miraculous to watch).

Self-Care

“Start a breathwork practice. Threes typically struggle to really take a break from the hustle and bustle. A quick breathwork routine will help ground you.”

I’m not someone who meditates or does yoga or anything, so this was an interesting change. I think I was supposed to do this in the morning, but I guess we’re doing it at night now. I did this 5-minute breathing routine I found on YouTube, and it was quite relaxing.

Thanks for coming along with me on my day, everyone! Hope you enjoyed it!
