Summer Favorites 2020

Updated: Apr 3, 2021

I swear every other day I wake up and realize that there’s a book or artist or movie that I completely forgot to include in my master list of favorites. To prevent myself from editing that post every couple days, I decided to write this post, which contains all of my favorite things from this summer. I’m currently planning on making this a seasonal thing, so you can prepare for your quarterly dose of recommendations! Here are all the cool books, movies/tv shows, music, and other stuff that I’ve been into these past few months. A lot of these are what didn’t make my master list of favorites because I didn’t want to overload on the songs or books. Happy reading, and hope this helps you out!

Books

  • Graceling by Kristin Cashore (YA fantasy, people with magic powers!!)

  • Four Days of You and Me by Miranda Kenneally (YA contemporary romance; enemies to lovers to ex-lovers to lovers?; takes place in flashbacks/time jumps across four years of high school; other topics touched on: travel, being lgbtq+ in a conversative town, career/future plans -- becoming an author, baseball, college/supporting the family business)

  • Starry Eyes by Jenn Bennett (YA contemporary romance; friends to lovers to enemies to lovers? also, family drama; characters tough it out in the wilderness for a majority of the book; absolute cutest thing ever)

  • The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson (YA contemporary romance; dealing with plans falling apart, future/career plans, friend group drama; many cute bookish moments)

  • If I’m Being Honest by Emily Wibberly and Austin Siegemund-Broka (YA contemporary romance; strong female main; making new friends and reconciling with old ones; making up for a not-so-good past)

  • First & Then by Emma Mills (YA contemporary romance; family relationships, figuring out your future, and unexpected friendships)

  • Fake It Till You Break It by Jenn Nguyen (YA contemporary romance; fake dating; Asian American rep + family drama thrown in)

Movies/TV Shows

  • On My Block (comedy-drama TV show; navigating high school, growing up, family, dealing with what’s in store for the future)

  • The Politician (comedy-drama TV show; high school election but affairs, whodunits, and medical dramas tossed in for good measure)

  • A Walk to Remember (romance movie; lots of crying happened on my end)
