“Cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudels / Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles / Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings / These are a few of my favorite things”. While I’m not the biggest fan of schnitzel with noodles, I have many other favorite things, which are all contained in this list. There’s a lot more categories than there are on here (stores to shop at, restaurant, breakfast foods), but these are the more entertainment-related ones just because I thought they would be the most helpful to y’all during quarantine. I’m planning on releasing a list containing all of my favorite noms soon, and as for fashion/stores, that may have to wait until I figure out what stores provide me with a good balance of affordability and environmental-friendliness (fast fashion is a no no). Books and songs were so hard to narrow down because my gosh, they’re all so good. Without further ado, these are (more than) a few of my favorite things!
A quick "here's the evening sky in Philadelphia" break before getting into the list
Books
I’m in love with all of these books -- ask me if you want more books recs because I have A LOT → I put some defining characteristics/niches in the parentheses along with the genre
*quick disclaimer from May 2021 me - my book taste has evolved A LOT in the year since I made this post, so if you want more updated favorites then check out my seasonal faves posts*
Literally any book by Marie Lu (mostly YA sci-fi dystopian, but The Young Elites is fantasy and The Kingdom of Back is historical fiction; if I could tell you to read one book on this list it would be one of hers)
An Ember in the Ashes series by Sabaa Tahir (YA fantasy)
Daughter of Smoke & Bone series by Laini Taylor (YA fantasy)
The Reader trilogy by Traci Chee (YA Fantasy; so so underrated; I sobbed for a good 30 minutes after finishing the last book)
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before trilogy by Jenny Han (YA contemporary romance; the books are so much better than the movies)

My Life Next Door by Huntley Fitzpatrick (YA contemporary romance; don't believe everything you're told; another good one: What I Thought Was True)
It Started with Goodbye by Christina June (YA contemporary romance; one relationship built over emailing, rebuilding family relationships; fairy tale inspired; also read: Everywhere You Want To Be and No Place Like Here)
They Both Die At the End by Adam Silvera (YA contemporary with a sci-fi twist; I cried too hard; also read What If It’s Us)
American Panda by Gloria Chao (YA contemporary romance; Asian! American! Representation!; dealing with family pressure/expectations for school + marriage)
Always Never Yours by Emily Wibberly and Austin Siegemund-Broka (YA contemporary romance; strong female main; also spectacular: If I’m Being Honest)
A Walk in the Sun by Michelle Zink (YA contemporary romance; takes place on a farm)
Every Reason We Shouldn’t by Sara Fujimara (YA contemporary romance; figure skating romance and some Asian American rep!)
Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett (YA contemporary romance; one relationship built over texting; also amazing is Starry Eyes)
Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann (YA-ish contemporary romance; ace representation!)
Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy (YA contemporary romance; saying screw you to beauty pageant stereotypes)
August and Everything After by Jennifer Salvato Doktorski (YA contemporary romance; characters love music, I love the characters; also deals with recovering from loss + addiction)
