Purchases I Want to Make (Goodbye Frugal Caro?)

I’m going to be real honest here and say that I’m way more frugal than I should be. I have a bit of money to spend, but I just keep saving it for the event that there’ll be another, better purchase to make, but that event never comes. My parents and siblings have told me all about the importance of investing properly in good quality items, so I guess I should take this as my sign to make some of those purchases I’ve been thinking about but haven’t followed through with. There’s nothing too crazy on here, but I thought it’d be interesting to share some of the purchases I want to make in the next year or so. Happy reading!

PS: If 75% of these things are functional, everyday use items, don’t be surprised. Also, this is purely for informational purposes. I want to eventually make these purchases in the near future, but I’m not going to do these all at once. I’m also planning on buying all of this with the aforementioned money that I’ve saved up.

Books

Don’t tell me you didn’t see this one coming. I’ve been reading so much lately, and a majority of it has been through ebooks checked out from my local library. This is the most convenient, safe, and financially viable method (books are expensive, people), but I also want to invest in some paper books because it’s easier on my eyes and I’d like to have copies of my favorite books that have special places in my heart. These books include everything Marie Lu has ever written, the An Ember in the Ashes series by Sabaa Tahir, and the Reader trilogy by Traci Chee. I actually bought the Legend series by Marie Lu (buy 2 get 1 free at Target), and I really enjoyed rereading the series because it’s my favorite of all time. I also got to go through and annotate all of my favorite scenes, and I love the books even more now.

Ear piercings + earrings

I have kind of mixed feelings about this one because on one hand, having pierced ears and being able to wear earrings would be really cool, but on the other hand, I feel like it might be a hassle. With pierced ears, you have to have your earrings in for a majority of the time -- otherwise, the holes might close up -- but given the way I cycle through times where I wear jewelry every day and times where I wear none at all, I don’t know if I have the commitment for piercings.

Casual sneakers

I didn’t really know how to describe these, but this is a general category of shoe that encompasses Nike Air Force 1s, Converse, Vans, and the like. Basically, shoes that aren’t fit to exercise in but functional enough to walk around in. I own slip-on Vans, Converse, and a pair of Ked-like shoes, but they’re all so worn down or don’t fit well anymore. Due to the fact that I rarely leave the house anymore, the only shoes I really wear are sneakers, but when things are a bit more normal, I’ll probably need to invest in a more fashionable pair of shoes to wear to school or other places.

Rings

Again, kind of mixed feelings about this one (see previous jewelry commitment issues). I’ve been on a ring kick lately; this is mostly because of books and how a ring made of paperclips is symbolic in my favorite book, but long story short, I’ve been making and wearing a bunch of wire rings lately. I bought a couple from one of my friends’ shops, but I’ve been considering investing in some more wire rings off Etsy or some other place. Wire rings are my favorite type of ring because they’re so thin that you barely notice them (with other rings, I get tired of them and take them off a lot), but I also like other thin, dainty rings.
