(Online) School Day in My Life

It’s a few months into the school year, and although we’re still chilling out in online school, I thought it’d be interesting to take y’all along in a day in my life during online school. You’ve already seen my first day of school, but that was back when we only reviewed syllabi in class and I didn’t have any homework. Oh how the times have changed. School is in full swing now, so here’s what I do during all of my classes, what I do after school, and what my nights look like. If you came to this blog to try to procrastinate doing your homework and not think about school, maybe come back next week. For those of you sticking around, happy reading! I know that many of you are my classmates and your days look a lot like mine, but I think it’s still cool to give y’all a look at what I do when I’m not slacking off in virtual classes. That’s a joke. We love school.

8:00 AM: Waking Up

Up and at ‘em! Happy Thursday everyone, and welcome to the beginning of a new school day. Big announcement: I recently changed my home screen to this one that I made (by putting text on a Google image so you know, no talent required). It was actually inspired by a wallpaper that I found on Pinterest which had the same text (it’s from a tweet by Troye Sivan) but in a design that I didn’t find too aesthetically pleasing. I absolutely adored the text, though, and since I didn’t find any other versions of the wallpaper online, I decided to make one for myself. I’m pretty proud of myself (hehe). One request: no regrets. Second big announcement: I changed my alarm sound from an old pop song (“Olivia” by One Direction) to a slightly less old pop song (“I Like Me Better” by Lauv). ILMB is the hopeless romantic song of my dreams, so why not wake up to it?

8:05 AM: Getting Ready

I’ve shared my morning routine what seems like a million times, and it has pretty much not changed. The only difference is that I use a different face wash (the Clean and Clear Exfoliating Scrub, which I have slight mixed feelings on -- please give me recommendations because I’ve yet to find a good face wash). Oh, and I’ve also started listening to music while I get ready because it makes it physically impossible for me to fall back asleep. Today’s fave: “Pride” by Noah Kahan and mxmtoon, a collab I never knew I needed. Also, today's OOTD: top from Forever 21, sweatshirt from H&M, leggings from FILA, and necklace from Amazon.

8:20 AM: Breakfast

For breakfast I had banana pancakes (with peanut butter, of course), a hard boiled egg, and some edamame. Big thank you to mi madre for cooking all of this because I do not wake up early enough in the morning to get out a pancake griddle. Banana pancakes have to be one of my favorite breakfasts, especially since it’s too cold for smoothie bowls and overnight oats, so this was delish.

8:40 AM: First Period

First period I had Computer Vision, which is basically just an advanced computer science class. Today my teacher lectured about this algorithm (the randomized closest pairs algo if you’re interested), so that’ll be something I have to code over the weekend. How fun.

10:15 AM: Snack!!

My snacks have not changed at all since the summer, so here we got the classic Greek yogurt, bananas, granola, chia seeds, and walnuts.

10:25 AM: Second Period

Things I did in English today:

  1. Failed a reading quiz (I will tell you that reading quizzes are the absolute worst assignments for me in English. I do worse on these than I do big essays. I don’t understand myself. I just cannot absorb information.)

  2. Wrote half an essay for some county data collection thing (hopefully it’s completion points to offset the quiz fail)

  3. Did a discussion on the same chapters of The Scarlet Letter that I just took a quiz on. Not a fail this time. The image above is of the diagram that I had to draw to track who spoke and how often. I feel like a detective.

12:00 PM: Lunch

Best time of the day honestly. Today for lunch we had homemade dumplings, steamed cabbage, and fish sticks. Peak balanced healthy diet right here. Subject of discussion at the lunch table: the election (*stressed noises*) and my inability to read. Funny story: I read the velocity on my physics test as 25 m/s (which was correct), wrote it down correctly, but proceeded to use 29 m/s as the velocity for the rest of the problem. I am ashamed.

12:50 PM: Third Period

APUSH wasn’t anything special today -- we just discussed a few articles about the Revolutionary War and whether it was an actual revolution or not. Pretty interesting stuff though.

2:35 PM: Fourth Period

Today my chemistry teacher screamed at me through the screen about thermodynamics and calorimetry. Yahoo.

4:00 PM: Work Out

After a pre-workout snack of banana + peanut butter toast, I went out for a run since the weather was nice today. I love to listen to podcasts on my runs because music can’t keep me entertained for an hour straight, so today I listened to the latest episode of Pretty Basic, the classic fave. Then I went home, did an ab workout by my queen Chloe Ting, and called it quits on the physical activity for the day. I usually spend a bit more time running than I did today (45 minutes vs today’s 30), but we were on a bit of a time crunch because I had a meeting in an hour.

5:00 PM: Meeting

Speaking of the meeting, at 5pm I had a meeting for my internship. There’s not really much I can show or tell because of privacy and intellectual property and whatnot (not tryna get sued or stalked here), but it was a standard weekly meeting where we just talked about our progress and new tasks for the week.

But, I did want to jump in here and talk about how I organize my life. I used to rely only on my paper planner to list out assignments, but I found that on weekends, it was really overwhelming to see a list of all the work I had to get done in three days. I saw a few YouTubers time block with a calendar app, so I decided to try that out. I really like it so far because I have a lot of flexibility with the ability to move things around as I see fit, and it’s so much less stressful because I can see a task and know exactly when I’m going to get it done. Instead of seeing a list of ten tasks all in one space, I can see a distribution of those tasks over three days, with only a few tasks per day.

5:45 PM: Studying for Chinese

I have a Chinese quiz tomorrow that I’m not trying to fail because I am a terribly uncultured native speaker, so I just did some review of key words/phrases. We’re talking about nutrition now, which is great. I now know how to say protein in Chinese. We love 蛋白质.

6:30 PM: Dinner

On tonight’s dinner menu: bread, soup, sauteed shredded potatoes, some greens, oyster pancake things, and chicken. Very descriptive, I know. The only important thing is that it was delish.

7:00 PM: Grant Writing

As the money lady (aka Director of Finances) for a nonprofit, I get to write grant applications to get us some extra cash. I was on a pretty big time crunch for this one, but it was pretty short so I got it done pretty quickly. Hopefully we get the moolah.

8:00 PM: APUSH Homework

I have a history assignment due Monday, but I also have a bunch of other stuff to do this weekend so I decided to just get it done now. Remember the articles about whether the American Revolution was revolutionary? Yeah, now I have to write my own stance on it. More writing. How fun.

9:30 PM: Getting Un-ready

If you know my morning routine, I’m going to assume you know my night routine because it is the exact same.

10:00 PM: More Relaxation!!!

Especially on long work days, I have to take some time to relax before bed because otherwise it’s physically impossible for me to sleep well. I've also been trying to stop working by 10pm each night, but we'll see how sustainable that is further on in the year. I’ve been reading a lot lately (recent fave: Six of Crows ugh such a good book), so I did a bit of that as well as a new hobby: watching Twitch streams. I got into watching people play games like Among Us and it’s quite entertaining. I’m not a gamer, I promise. I got caught venting by 3 people within a span of 30 seconds. A fall faves post is coming out at the end of this month, so you can go check out my fave reads of the month there soon.

Late: Sleep

Night, people. Hope you enjoyed this day in my life!
