Book Review: Radio Silence by Alice Oseman

tl;dr the source of my love of queer found family

Premise

Frances has been a study machine with one goal. Nothing will stand in her way; not friends, not a guilty secret – not even the person she is on the inside. Then Frances meets Aled, and for the first time she's unafraid to be herself.

So when the fragile trust between them is broken, Frances is caught between who she was and who she longs to be. Now Frances knows that she has to confront her past. To confess why Carys disappeared…

Frances is going to need every bit of courage she has.

Review

I am completely in love with this story and the characters. It’s always so nice to see a healthy, completely platonic friendship between two characters, and I connected to Frances and Aled immediately. They’re two halves of a whole. Platonic soulmates. They match each other.

Also, the representation? Fabulous. Frances, Aled, Daniel, Raine, and Carys are a found family that I would 100% be a part of, and I love to see the demisexual representation with Aled and the LGBTQ+/POC rep with the rest of the cast as well! I just love them all so much. I want to give each and every one of them a hug. I'd pay for Raine's car repairs. I'd let Frances cut and dye my hair pastel pink any day of the week.
