More TikTok-inspired blog posts! Basically, there’s a trend where people present a more popular book and then recommend a similar book (if you liked this, read this). It runs on the idea that people would want to read something similar to books that they have already read and liked. Thus, I decided to do a version of this trend in a blog post.
Here is the link to a Google Form, where you will initially see a page of super popular novels like The Hunger Games or Divergent. Click on a book that you’d like a recommendation for, and then navigate to the next page, where you will find your new book rec! After that, you can submit the form, start another response, and complete the form as many times as you’d like. I tried to find books that were similar in tropes, themes, plot, or genre to the popular ones, and I’ve read (and loved) almost all of them!
Below you’ll find a video demo of the form if you’re a bit confused - enjoy, everyone! PS: there will be a version of this for TV shows/movies (if you liked this show/movie, read this) coming soon!
Reminder: ALWAYS check trigger warnings before reading! I have many listed in each book’s individual section, but you can look here to find a more comprehensive list. All book synopses are from Goodreads.
Disclaimer: I definitely recommend all of the books that are shown in the second part of the form (the “underrated” recs). However, I do not personally recommend all of the “popular” books shown in the first part of the form. The reason I don’t recommend all of them is because many of the authors/books are problematic. A list of many problematic authors is in this Google doc created by the lovely @sophia.books on TikTok, so refer to that for more info. When it comes to problematic authors/books, you can like the author or their books, but I would advise borrowing the books from the library or buying second-hand.
