Book Review: Good Girl, Bad Blood by Holly Jackson

tl;dr off-the-rails amazing thriller

Premise

Pip is not a detective anymore.

With the help of Ravi Singh, she released a true-crime podcast about the murder case they solved together last year. The podcast has gone viral, yet Pip insists her investigating days are behind her.

But she will have to break that promise when someone she knows goes missing. Jamie Reynolds has disappeared, on the very same night the town hosted a memorial for the sixth-year anniversary of the deaths of Andie Bell and Sal Singh.

The police won't do anything about it. And if they won't look for Jamie then Pip will, uncovering more of her town's dark secrets along the way... and this time everyone is listening. But will she find him before it's too late?

Review

no because i think i liked it better than the first one and i literally cannot wrap my head around what just happened

some highlights bc i can't think coherently rn:

- the case is super complex just like book 1 -- way way more than it seems at surface level. i think the case in book 1 required some empathy to grasp but also the ability to remove yourself from the situation and think objectively about a certain person. this case, however, was so much more. when you get to the end, you really have to think. does this person deserve sympathy? does this person deserve their fate? how much of a choice did they have? it's basically a test of morals. i literally don't know i just know that i respect pippa fitz-amobi so much and i say that with my entire chest

- a lot of the big players in book 1 come back and yk... it was interesting and not what'd you expect

- i predicted close to nothing i pretty much just sat there in shock

- i rly liked how pip's podcast worked its way into the story

- this entire thing was so big brain i just --

- the ending???????? third book rn netgalley approve my arc pls i need closure i need happiness

- the romance in this book is so top tier. super minor part of the plot but y'all pip & ravi are on an entirely different plane of existence. their banter, their dynamic, how he's such a safe space for her. how this man will literally do anything for her. HOW HE'S SO WITTY AND FUNNY AND EVEN WHIPPED OUT THAT WHOLE ANGRY LOVE CONFESSION GOOD LORD

note: this can technically be read as a standalone since it's a brand-new case (you might have to learn characters a bit quickly tho). however, it does spoil all of the first book bc it goes through what happened with the case in book 1 (and who's responsible/how/why)
